Kofax übernimmt Nuance Digital Imaging Solutions (NDI) vom Dachkonzern Nuance Communications: http://bit.ly/KofaxNuance. NDI ist im gleichen Marktsegment wie Kofax unterwegs und bietet Scanning, Imaging und Workflow an. Rund 6 Millionen Anwender nutzen Capture- und Workflow-Komponenten von NDI. Durch die Übernahme kommt bei Kofax einiges an redundanter Funktionalität hinzu, aber Kofax kann auch eine Reihe der Automatisierungs- und Workflow Komponenten von NDI gut für seine aktuelle RPA-Strategie gebrauchen. RPA steht für Robotic Process Automation. Ein neuer „Kampfbegriff“, der eigentlich nichts anderes meint, was wir schon früher mit Production Workflow oder Business Process Automation kannten. Der Begriffsbestandteil „Robotic“ passt nicht so ganz, da es ja um Büroarbeitsplätze und Software geht – passt aber ins Marketing-Konzept. Und natürlich gibt es hierfür auch schon eine Analystenstudie: Forrester Wave RPA Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Juni 2018. Dort findet sich Kofax als einer der „Strong Performer“ im Mittelfeld wieder. Mit der Übernahme von NDI dürfte Kofax seine Position zum führenden Anbieter ausbauen, zum „globalen Führer bei Scanning und Printing Lösungen“ – so wie die Eigenwerbung in der Pressemitteilung ausführt.

Kofax ist längst nicht mehr der klassische Anbieter von Scanning-Lösungen. Zum Portfolio gehören heute „Smart Process Application“ Plattformen, darunter eine Plattform für mobile Anwendungen, Automatisierung von Finanz-Prozessen wie Rechnungseingang (dabei auch Readsoft), Scanning mit OCR, ICR und Klassifikation, Formularerkennung, Workflow mit RPA, elektronische Signatur und vieles mehr. Hinzu kommt mit dem Kunden „Communications Manager“ ein Ausbau der Lösungen in Richtung CRM. Die Ausrichtung von Kofax zielt auf eine „Intelligent Automation Platform“. Vom Komponenten- und Subsystem-Anbieter hat sich Kofax so zu einem respektablen Information-Management-Software-Anbieter gemausert. Mit NDI kann Kofax das Portfolio erweitern und nimmt zugleich einen Wettbewerber und dessen Kunden vom Markt. Kofax-CEO Reynolds C. Bish hat wieder einen guten Deal gemacht.

Das wird nicht die letzte Übernahme im ECM-Markt gewesen sein. Der Markt ist aktuell in Aufruhr was das Finden geeigneter Investment-Kandidaten angeht. Wachstum durch Übernahmen ist wieder angesagt.
